United Way golf outing raises $5,000

GREENCASTLE -- Golfing for a good cause helped the United Way raise over $5,000 during their annual golf event held Aug. 7 at Old Hickory.

With beautiful weather, plenty of prizes and teams determined to win, the event went off without a hitch.

"It was a great day. I think everybody had fun," said United Way Executive Director David English. "I've had a number of people tell me this was the best golf scramble they have participated in all summer."

First place winners in this years event was a team from North Salem Bank. Members are Charles Green, Mike Clampitt, Pat Asbell and Bob Clampitt.

Coming in second were Matt Welker, Chuck Schroeder, Doug Miller and Scott Davis on the Putnam County Comprehensive Services team.

Putnam County Comprehensive Services took second place. Team members are Matt Welker, Chuck Schroeder, Doug Miller and Scott Davis.

Third place winner was First National Bank with the team of Ryan Simmerman, Josh Richardson, Samantha Richardson and John Hecko.

The United Way of Putnam County's goal is to raise $175,000 in the coming year.

The United Way in Putnam County serves 15 local agencies. They include the Putnam County Red Cross, Area 7 Agency on Aging, A-way Home Shelter, Hope Haven Horse Farm, Johnson Nichols Health Clinic, Mental Health America in Putnam County, Opportunity Housing Inc. of Putnam County, Putnam County Chaplaincy Association, Putnam County Comprehensive Services, Putnam County council on Aging and Aged, Putnam County Family Support Services, Inc., Putnam County Youth Development Commission, Reading Improvement Center, Summer Enrichment Program and the YMCA of Clay County.

English also reminded folks at the outing of the United Way's upcoming kick-off breakfast and day of caring on Aug. 28.

"The Day of Caring is a mobilization of volunteers to celebrate the spirit of giving through service by providing a day of volunteer opportunities that impact the entire community," said English.
