Town to open recycling center

Monday, August 17, 2009

BAINBRIDGE -- Town council members are looking into starting a recycling center, yard waste site and walking paths on a newly purchased piece of property.

Town Clerk Jason Hartman told the group the town closed on the former Lanham property on the east edge of Bainbridge.

"It's not 100 percent sure yet and it will be a while before we can get it up and operating, but we did secure the property," said Hartman.

Utility Superintendent Jim Nelson, Assistant Utility Superintendent Troy Elless and Hartman have mowed the property and cleaned up trash and materials on it.

The site is five acres with plenty of space for recycling center and for disposal of yard waste. It is located south of S.R. 36 on E. Main Street on the eastside of Bainbridge.

Council President Richard Cope told Hartman he wanted to see the town pursue plans to implement a recycling center as soon as possible.
