Friendship Day is Sept. 23

GREENCASTLE -- Friendship Day 2009 is set for Sept. 23.

This annual event, which this year is sponsored by Eitel's Flowers & Gifts, The Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce, Asbury Towers Retirement Community, At Home Realty, LLC, Cunningham Insurance, Ivy Tech Community College and RHS -- A Republic Service Co., is intended to spread friendship, goodwill and community spirit among Putnam County Citizens.

Approximately 4,000 roses will be given away free of charge in dozens on one condition: You can keep one rose to enjoy for yourself, but you must give the other 11 roses to 11 different people.

The sponsors of Friendship Day are requesting that when picking up roses, participants generously drop off a canned food item so it may be donated to the Putnam County Food Pantry.

"This is just one more small way that we can make a difference for our neighbors," said Tammy Amor, Executive Director of the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce. "If you are unable to bring a canned good, you can still get a dozen roses to pass out to new friends."

The roses will be available at six locations starting at 8 a.m. on Sept. 23: Eitel's Flowers & Gifts, The Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce, Asbury Towers Retirement Community, At Home Realty, LLC, Cunningham Insurance and Ivy Tech Community College (the new campus).

Each year the roses go faster, so the sponsors want to remind and advise everyone to come as early as you can, before they are all gone.
