Tiger Cubs rounded up by Mounties

GREENCASTLE -- The GHS volleyball team's struggles continued Tuesday as they fell to Southmont in three sets to move to 0-3 on the season. The Tiger Cubs lost 25-15, 25-16 and 25-21.

Chelsea Samuels helped power the GHS squad with 30 digs, six blocks, three kills, one aces and two stuffs, while Kayla Nobles had 20 digs, three kills and one ace. Hannah Cochran recorded eight blocks, two stuff blocks; two kills and was six-for-six serving.

Jordyn Lewis chipped in 15 digs, three assists, three points and one ace, with Kandice Phillips providing 12 digs, nine assists, one ace and was eight-for-nine serving. She also had 47 sets on the night. Braden Amis recorded five digs, three blocks and two kills, while Kara Birt had five digs and nine sets.

Jessie Bennett had 10 digs, two kills, one ace and was six-for-seven on serves. Brooke Buckner had nine digs and Erynn Beck had one dig on the night.

"We will have to begin playing more consistent over a longer period of time," GHS head coach Trish Lowe said. "We must transition from offense to defense without hesitation.

"We must begin talking and trusting our teammates," she added. "When we start doing these things our success level will improve."

The junior varsity also came up short, losing 14-25 and 11-25.

The Tiger Cubs will host Sullivan tonight at 6 p.m.
