Trial date set for accused robber
GREENCASTLE -- A trial date has been set for a Greencastle man accused of an attempted armed robbery at College Inn, Greencastle, on July 8.
Richie A Goul, 20, was arrested July 8 and formally charged on July 10 with Class B felony attempted armed robbery and Class D felony attempted theft. Putnam County Superior Court Judge Denny Bridges set Goul's final pretrial conference for Oct. 19 and his jury trial for Nov. 3.
According to court documents, Goul brandished a knife at a night auditor at College Inn and demanded money.
Goul was on probation for a June conviction for Class A misdemeanor domestic battery when the new charges were filed. He also has a charge for Class C misdemeanor illegal consumption of alcohol pending against him.
He has been held without bond at the Putnam County Jail since his arrest.
The alleged victim of the attempted robbery told police Goul rang the night service bell at College Inn. When she opened the door, Goul allegedly put a knife to the woman's throat and told her to give him her cash register.
The woman was able to shut the door on Goul, who she said fled on foot. Goul, who was found to have a blood alcohol content of .153 percent, was located by police shortly after the incident.
The alleged victim positively identified Goul as the man who attempted to rob her, court documents said.
If convicted on both charges, Goul could face up to 23 years in prison.
