GHS defeats Mustangs

GREENCASTLE -- The Greencastle volleyball team picked up its fourth win of the season, winning a five set match against Edgewood. The Tiger Cubs won 25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 21-25 and 15-8.

"This was a great team win," GHS head coach Trish Lowe said. "I am so proud of these girls."

Greencastle was led by Kandice Phillips, who recorded 17 digs, two aces, two kills and 25 assists. Jordyn Lewis added 45 digs, four kills and five aces, while Kayla Nobles chipped in 38 digs, two kills and six points. Braden Amis had five digs, 10 kills, 13 blocks and one stuff block, with Brooke Buckner adding 29 digs.

Hanna Cochran recorded seven digs, eight blocks, four stuff blocks and 12 kills for the Tiger Cubs, with Jessie Bennett adding 10 digs, six kills and one ace. Kara Birt had six digs and one ace for GHS.

After losing the third and fourth sets, Lowe noted that her team could have thrown in the towel, but instead dug in their heels and came away with the win.

"We could have folded and we did not," Lowe commented. "I hope this is the team that comes to play the rest of the season."

Greencastle will travel to Terre Haute South tonight at 6 p.m.

In junior varsity action, Greencastle lost in two sets 25-19 and 26-14.
