GREENCASTLE -- The Putnam County Community Foundation has announced the winners of the 2009 Share the Dream Contest. The Putnam County Hospital Cancer Center Endowment obtained the most contributions; Greencastle High School Alumni Association Scholarship Endowment earned the most online contributions. Fillmore High School Alumni Association Scholarship Endowment obtained the most-first time donors.

The Putnam County Hospital Cancer Center provides diagnostic and treatment options, surgical interventions, and inpatient/outpatient chemotherapy infusion services. Staff members are available to help patients and their families through the entire continuum of care. The Endowment was initiated in 2008 to provide a source of sustainable funding for these local services.

"We are so fortunate to have these services nearby," said Elaine Peck, Executive Director of the Community Foundation. "They are very important to the quality of life in our community."

This is the sixth consecutive year the Greencastle High School Alumni Association has won the Share the Dream Contest. More than 60 students have received scholarships from the Association's scholarship endowment.

"We are committed to building our scholarship fund," said Stephen McMains, president of the association. "Every year we develop a plan."

This is the first Share the Dream contest won by the Fillmore High School Alumni Scholarship Fund. The Fillmore High School Alumni Association has been active for 84 years and started its endowment in 1995. 2009 Vice President Sharon Ellett credits President Don Tharp with the Association's success this year.

"It was Don's idea to mail the Share the Dream cards with Fillmore's cardinal to all of our members this year."

Founding officers of the Endowment are Randy Robinson, Vera Jean (Ross) Clark, Linda (Shipman) Ruark, Don Ruark, and Mary Alice (Nichols) Harcourt.

Each year, the Community Foundation's Share the Dream Program gives charitable organizations and individuals a tool to help them raise money as well as provides them with the opportunity to recognize special people in the Banner Graphic.

Due to a generous donation from an anonymous donor, participating organizations and individuals had the opportunity to earn up to $2,000 for their endowments. Three awards were offered in 2009: $1,000 for the endowment that raised the most money; $500 for the endowment receiving the most contributions via the Community Foundation's website at www.pcfoundation.org; and $500 for the endowment that had the most first time donors.

Share the Dream begins May 1 and lasts until Aug. 31 each year. For additional information or to have a representative from the Community Foundation speak to your group, contact the Community Foundation office at 653-4978. or www.pcfoundation.org
