GREENCASTLE -- The inaugural Family Movie Night presented by the United Way and Youth Development Commission was considered a success.

"We estimate there were 400 attendees at our showing, which is great for the first year," said Josh Richardson, a committee member for the event.

Movie night was held in Robe-Anne Park and showed "Race to Witch Mountain" on a 26-foot inflatable screen on the softball diamond. There were 395 hot dogs and buns, 40 large pizzas from Dominos, 50 pounds of popcorn, 50 gallons of Hi-C drink and eight cases of 20-ounce pop consumed at the event.

"All in all, Family Movie Night was a success," Richardson said.

Event sponsors were Shuee and Sons, Jeff Boggess, Fillmore Christian Church Mission Department, National Night Out, First National Bank, Family Support Services, English Family Farms, Elk's Lodge, Ridpath PTO and the Banner Graphic.

Concession and gift sponsors include Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department for popcorn and supplies; Family Video for movie and coupons; Kroger for $30 in gift cards; and Domino's Pizza.

Through the above sponsors and concession donations the event raised approximately $1,100 for school supplies.

A second movie night will be planned for next year.
