John Kirby Brown, 76, of Reelsville, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 at Meadows Manor East in Terre Haute.
He was born May 26, 1933 in Clay County, as the son of Floyd Otis and Susan Elizabeth Smith Brown. He attended Brazil High School.
Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. He had been employed as a truck driver at Schwerman Trucking.
Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Mae Atkison Brown; son John K. Brown Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughter Jerrie Lynn Carroll of Muncie; stepson Terry (Berta) Bair of Conyers, Ga.; stepdaughters Deanna (Paul) Holmes of Mesa, Ariz. and Marla Assad of Mesa; sisters Maud Riley of Carbon and Irma (Chuck) Hiatt of Sheridan; grandchildren Crimson Brown and John K. Brown III; and other extended family.
His parents; son James Michael Brown; brothers Carl, Lee, Bill, Luther, and Joe Brown; and sisters Laura Westray and Audrey Deardorff preceded him in death.
A military honors service will take place at noon Monday at Moore Funeral Home. Following the service, Mr. Brown's body will be cremated and his ashes buried at Bee Ridge Cemetery in Brazil.
Calling will be from 10 a.m. to the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
