GHS closes season with win

MONTEZUMA -- The Greencastle volleyball team ended the regular season Thursday with a five-set win over Riverton Parke. The Tiger Cubs won 16-25, 25-16, 15-25, 25-22 and 15-13.

Chelsea Samuels helped lead the Tiger Cubs charge with 34 digs, 13 blocks, 13 kills and two aces, while Kayla Nobles added 41 digs, five aces and two kills. Kandice Phillips had 21 digs, 20 assists, two aces and one kill for GHS, with Jordyn Lewis adding 14 digs, 37 sets, three kills and one ace.

Braden Amis chipped in nine digs, nine blocks, eight kills and one ace, with Kara Birt recording 21 digs. Jessie Bennett had three digs, one block, six kills and two aces, with Rayleigh Amis adding six digs and one block. Brooke Buckner tallied 20 digs, Kylie Smotherman had three digs and Hannah Cochran chipped in two digs.

"I am happy to come home with a win," GHS head coach Trish Lowe said. "We wanted to finish the regular season on a positive note and we did."

The junior varsity fell in three sets, 24-25, 25-11 and 15-10.

Greencastle will face Edgewood in the second game of the West Vigo sectional Thursday.
