GREENCASTLE -- Don't be square, join the Putnam County Extension Homemakers Thursday at the Putnam County Fairgrounds Community Building for a cruise down memory lane for a good cause.
The Putnam County Indiana Extension Homemakers Association (IEHA) Membership committee will host "Rock & Roll Movie Night and Sock Hop" to raise money for Putnam County Coats for Kids. They will also be kicking off a yearlong fundraising effort for the Putnam County Fair called "Pennies for the Fair."
Festivities will kick off at 4 p.m. with a car show courtesy of Putnam County Rods and Relics. Be sure to vote for "Best in Show" and drop a few pennies in the bucket of your favorite classic ride.
The winner will receive a certificate and the proceeds will go to the "Pennies for the Fair" campaign. Food will be served starting at 5:30 p.m. for a small fee, with all of the proceeds going to Coats for Kids. There will also be penny candy and funnel cakes as well with the proceeds from those items also going to "Pennies for the Fair."
The movie, "Viva Las Vegas" starring the one and only Elvis Presley and Ann Margret, will be shown in the west side of the building while the Sock Hop rocks the night away in the east starting at 7 p.m.
Throughout the evening, the Putnam County IEHA will also be selling raffle tickets to benefit Coats for Kids. Tickets for the raffle will be $1 each or 6 for $5. Prizes for the raffle include movie tickets, a free night at the Walden Inn, gift cards and gift certificates for food or merchandise from area businesses and a pair of season passes for the Putnam County Playhouse.
Also, as part of the "Pennies for the Fair" fundraising initiative, Putnam County IEHA members will be donating items for a silent auction to benefit the fairgrounds. The winners of both the auction and the raffle will be announced at 9 p.m. along with the winner of the "Best in Show" contest.
Admission is a free will donation, either monetary, which will go to Coats for Kids, or a clean children's coat. Anyone unable to attend but who would still like to donate can take a coat to any of the designated drop off locations around town as well as Ambler Hill florist.
