James C. Spencer

James C. Spencer, 81, Greencastle, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009 at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.

Born April 30, 1928 in Mitchell, he was the son of John and Linnie Mundy Spencer.

He attended Roachdale Schools. On Jan. 4, 1951, he married Lois Ellen White Spencer, who preceded him in death on March 19, 2003.

He served in the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean War.

He ran Spencer's Auto Repair for several years and previously worked as an auto mechanic for Jim Harris Chevrolet in Greencastle.

His memberships included the VFW Post No.1592, American Legion, Eagles Lodge and the Moose Lodge all of Greencastle.

Survivors include his sons, Michael Spencer of Brooksville, Fla. Stacey Spencer and wife Lynn of Avon, Jim Bob Spencer and friend Debra of Greencastle and Rodney S. Spencer and wife Beth of Greencastle; two daughters, Teena Spencer and Tonya Spencer, both of Greencastle; a sister, Dorothy Eaton; a brother, Jack Spencer and wife Garnett of Plainfield; grandchildren, Michael, Sara, Brandon, Lorraine, Chasity, Jessica, Eva Dawn, Amber, Ryan, Joby, Ethan, Sunshine and Scott; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a granddaughter, Makayla Spencer; seven brothers, Joe, Ralph, Woodrow, Luther, Lee, Raymond, and Glen Spencer; and a sister, Gracie Spencer.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Burial with military rites will follow at the Deer Creek Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a Moose Lodge Memorial service at 7 p.m.
