H1N1 clinic slated for next week

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

GREENCASTLE -- The Putnam County Health Department, in partnership with the Putnam County Hospital, will be conducting another H1N1 flu vaccine clinic from 1 to 7 p.m. Nov. 18 and Nov. 19 at the Community Building at the Putnam County Fair Grounds.

For the first time, appointments will be available during this clinic to reduce wait times. To make an appointment, call 655-2550 on Friday or Monday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Both the H1N1 flu "shot" vaccine and the "nasal mist" vaccine will be available at this clinic on a walk-in basis or by appointment. Due to limited availability, the H1N1 flu shot vaccine will be available only to people in the following groups: children ages 6 months to 12 years old, healthcare workers, emergency first responders and pregnant women.

The H1N1 nasal mist vaccine will be available to any healthy person (with no long-term health or immune system problems) age 2 to 49 years old.

PCHD would like to encourage any person who falls into this category to get the nasal mist vaccine now rather than wait for the "shot" later.

Clinic hours will be dependant on availability of vaccine.

Questions regarding this clinic and H1N1 response in Putnam County can be referred to the Putnam County Health Department at 653-5210.
