Celebrate start of holidays at McCloud

Friday, November 20, 2009

NORTH SALEM -- Flock to McCloud Nature Park this weekend for Talkin' Turkey Weekend Nov. 28 and 29. Visitors can enjoy ongoing activities, free hot cocoa and fun holiday ideas all weekend long.

Especially the crafty will want to spend the afternoon at McCloud's nature center on Saturday, November 28. At 1 pm, design and create decorative greeting cards with an earthy flair at the Natural Greeting Card Workshop. All materials will be supplied. Later, attend Scrapbooking With Sandy at 3 pm. Sandy's popular class will cover The Completed Book this week and give attendees a chance to preserve those precious memories in a photo album. Bring your own photos and any special supplies you prefer. Some scrapbooking material will be provided.

By Sunday, November 29 all the Thanksgiving turkey you consumed has digested so join visitors for a hike around the park at 2 pm in search of wild turkeys. Dubbed the Wild Turkey Wander, it will be a workout like no other but we promise you won't break a sweat -- just enjoy the fresh forest air.

Park admission and all activities are free and open to the community. McCloud Nature Park is operated by Hendricks County Parks and Recreation and located five minutes south of North Salem at 8518 North Hughes Road. The park is open from dawn to dusk daily and the Nature Center is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday from 1 pm to 5 pm. For more information on McCloud Nature Park and park programs call McCloud at (765) 676-5437 or visit the website at www.hendrickscountyparks.org.
