Earl W. Wood

Mr. Earl Wood, 83, of Greencastle died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009 at Hendricks Regional Health in Danville.

Born Oct. 12, 1926 in Putnam County, he was the son of Harry and Ellen Monday Wood. He married Barbara Rogers on July 25, 1953, and she survives.

He was a United States Army Veteran and a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Posts of Greencastle.

Mr. Wood had been a truck driver with Skelly Oil Company for 20 years, retiring in 1973. He later owned and operated Wood Trucking for several years.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Don E. Wood and wife Charlene of Amo, Earlene Shaff and husband Joe of Greencastle and Terry Wood and wife Melissa of Fillmore; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant grandson, James Wayne Wood.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Blaydes officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory to the American Cancer Society.
