The Putnam Ants 4-H Club career development event team from Greencastle competed in the junior division of the State 4-H Entomology contest on Dec. 12 at Purdue University.

The team is coached by Gayle Hansen and includes Levi Lewis, Amanda Beals, Kelly Hansen and Beth Ann Hansen.

In the junior level division, the Putnam Ants team placed fourth at the State 4-H Entomology Contest. Individual honors in the junior division went to Kelly Hansen as sixth place individual and to Beth Ann Hansen for seventh place individual.

Putnam Ants 4-H Club judging team won the honor of judging at the state competition by placing first in the Area V 4-H Entomology Career Development Event in November.

Career Development events are designed to encourage youth to learn all they can about a specific topic.

Youth learn to identify insect specimens and must also complete a quiz on the topic. Youth practice the skills of observation, analysis and communication -- skills they will use their entire lives.

Youth also enjoy the fun, teamwork, and competition of Career Development Judging Events. There are more than a dozen different competitions where 4-H'ders may participate in career development events.
