Donald Ellis Grimes, 86, Rockville, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute.
He was a retired farmhand with Harbison Farms.
He was born Feb. 26, 1923 in Putnam County to the late Lawrence Grimes and Sarah Lydia Elkins Grimes.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Kathleen Belle Pierce Grimes, whom he married March 22, 1947 and died March 27, 1988.
Mr. Grimes is survived by one son, Michael Earl Grimes of Rockville; two daughters, Nancy Ann Berry and Donna Sue Grimes both of Rockville; four brothers, Alva Grimes of Crawfordsville, Harold Grimes of Greencastle, Frank Allee of Cloverdale, Walter Allee of Fort Wayne, Jack Allee of Greencastle; one sister, Helen Gardner of Greencastle; three grandchildren, Michael Dale Berry, Amanda Lee Berry and Steven Donald Berry.
One sister and five brothers also preceded him in death.
He served his country in the Army Air Corp during World War II.
He attended Portland Mills Christian Church. He spent a lot of time reading and enjoyed westerns.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard St., Rockville with the Rev. Ward Wyndam officiating. Burial will follow services in Portland Mills Cemetery in Parke County.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
