Forrest O. York, 76, of Greencastle died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born March 15, 1933 in Greencastle, the son of Earon S. and Laura M. McDonald York. He married Phyllis Elaine Humphrey on March 31, 1956 and she preceded him in death March 11, 2007.

Mr. York was a member of Big Walnut Missionary Baptist Church and retired from Lone Star Industries in 1995 after 36 1/2 years. He was a Korean War Veteran and a member of the Greencastle VFW Post 1550 and the Greencastle American Legion Post 58.

He is survived by a son, Rick York and wife Jane of Greencastle; three grandchildren, Amanda Cormican and husband Brad of Avon, Brad York of North Carolina and Nikki York of Greencastle; four great-grandchildren, Callista, Carson, Bethany and Cennedy; and sisters Iris"Geraldine" Smiley, Zola Mae Jones, Barbara Black and Sharon Sheldon. Also surviving is a friend, Gladys Akers.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, son James O. York and brothers Charles, John, Earon"Leroy" and George York.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home, 602 East Washington St., Greencastle, with the Rev. Mike Goss officiating. Burial will be in the Putnamville Cemetery with military rites.

Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
