DePauw faculty recital to take place Sunday

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

The first faculty recital for spring semester will take place on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Thompson Recital Hall at the Green Center for the Performing Arts on the DePauw University campus.

The recital will feature Dr. Matthew Markham, baritone, Barbara Pare', soprano and John Clodfelter, pianist. Markham will be performing the first half of the recital with works by Schubert, Eben and a group of Engliish songs by American composers. Pare will perform the second half with works of Rachmaninff and Dvorak.

There will also be some surprises at the end of the program featuring all three artists.

Markham is a new faculty member at Depauw, but has experience in opera, concert and recital.

He holds a bachelor of music degree from Florida State University, a masters degree in performance and pedagogy from Westminster Choir College, and a doctor of music degree in voice performance from Florida State University.

Pare' and Clodfelter have been collaborators for several years, as well as being community favorites. Most recently they performed at a benefit concert for the Greencastle Summer Chamber Music Series at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church.

Pare' received her bachelors degree in voice performance from Westminster Choir College and her masters degree in voice performance from Florida State University.

"We did not know one year ago that this concert would take place on Super Bowl Sunday, which is why we moved the time to 3 p.m.," Pare' said. "We are hoping that the community will still come and hear us, and have plenty of time to be home for the big game."

The concert is free and open to the public.
