Dorothy Stanley

Dorothy VanCleave Stanley, 88, of Greencastle died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010 at her home.

She was born May 23, 1921, in Greencastle, the daughter of Charles E. and Bessie Knoebel VanCleave. She married Jesse R. Stanley on June 12, 1955, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 1994. Her parents also preceded her in death.

Dorothy was a housewife and an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She was a member of Tri-Kappa Sorority, the Murat Shrine Antique Car Club and the Greencastle Presbyterian Church.

Dorothy is survived by friends Richard A. and Christina M. Bittles of Greencastle and their family, Aaron Bittles of Bloomington, Melissa Bittles of Brownsburg and Melanie Bittles of Greencastle; James P. Harris Sr. and Jane Ann Harris of Fillmore and their children, Shellie Thomas and Jamie Maroney of Noblesville, Christie Repass of Indianapolis, Lyndsay Everman of Bainbridge and Paul Harris Jr. of Cincinnati.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with the Rev. Wes Kendall officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
