Monday, March 22, 2010

Michael Nichols, a South Putnam senior, plays hockey for the Bloomington Blades. Nichols has played hockey since the age of 4. The Bloomington Blades belong to the Indiana State High School Hockey Association and are comprised of players from Bloomington North and South, Edgewood, Indian Creek and South Putnam.
South Putnam senior Michael Nichols and the Bloomington Blades hockey team placed second at the state championships March 13.

The Blades got down 1-0 after the first period, but had more shots on goal, 7-3, than the New Haven Bulldogs from Fort Wayne. New Haven added another score in the second period.

After a couple powerplays that results in a top shelf snipe and another score to knot it up at 2-all.

The championship came down the final 15 minutes, but after only committing one penalty in the first two periods, the Blades committed two penalties in the third period that resulted in two New Haven powerplay goals, bring the score to it's final tally of 4-2 in favor of the Bulldogs.
