Eggfest 2010 set for April 2 at Robe-Ann Park
GREENCASTLE -- The annual Eggfest at Robe-Ann Park is set for April 2. The nighttime egg hunt is for grades 6-12 and begins at 9 p.m. There are thousands of eggs and hundreds of prizes for participants.
Registration is limited to the first 500 youth in grades 6-12. Registration is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. the night of the event. Participants will need to bring a flashlight for most effective hunting.
WGRE 91.5 will provide music for the evening. Food will be available for purchase, and other fun activities will be provided. Among the many prizes donated by local "Good Egg" businesses is the "Golden Egg" prize, a Dell Laptop Mini Notebook provided by Putnam County's Tobacco Prevention and Cessation.
A list of prizes is available on the Eggfest Web site. They include admissions to various sports and entertainment centers, games, gift certificates, clothing items, restaurant gift cards, autographed items, jewelry and hundreds of others.
Registration forms are also available at the official Eggfest 2010 Web site, www.eggfest.org, local high schools and middle schools as well as at the event.
Participants must have a signed permission slip. The cost to hunt eggs is $5 with the official Eggfest 2010 T-shirts available for purchase for $12.
There will also be additional door prizes. The hunt will begin at 9 p.m. and the music and activities will last until 10 p.m.
Putnam County's Tobacco Prevention and Cessation is co-sponsoring this event as a way to raise awareness of the dangers of tobacco use, particularly for youth.
According to Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation, approximately 3,000 Indiana teens start smoking every year. One out of every three of those youth who continue to smoke will eventually die from tobacco related diseases, the agency claims. The tobacco industry currently spends $42 dollars marketing their products for every $1 that Indiana spends on prevention efforts, according to the agency.
"Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation works to upset that unfair equation by hosting local events like Eggfest 2010 to spread their message that tobacco kills," Williams said.
