GREENCASTLE -- The Putnam County Public Library will open its newest art exhibit at 4 p.m. March 27 in the Kiwanis room.

The show is a combination of shadowboxes and Martin Luther King inspired artwork by local residents. Shadowboxes were created by Saeko Umezawa, Kazuko Fukazawa, Kaoru Okane, Katsue Shiraishi, Naoko Okawa, Chie Fukuda, Yukie Takezawa, Shyo Takezawa, Noa Fukuda, Miho Okawa, and Sayaka Okawa.

The ladies and children who made shadowboxes met through their family's work for Heartland Automotive. The shadowboxes are on display in children's department, upstairs near reference and will be displayed in the Kiwanis Room at the opening.

The MLK artwork exhibits the work of more than 90 local artists who created a diverse and beautiful assortment of portraits. They were created to be equal, diverse and self-expressive, some of the primary messages King advocated.

Res-Care, HeadStart, Comprehensive Services, patrons of the Senior Center and many drop-in patrons created the MLK portraits over the last two months. These works will be displayed as a collage.

The art show will run through the end of April.
