SPEEDWAY -- The Greencastle boys' golf team defeated Lapel and Speedway Monday on the road. GHS tallied a 164, with Lapel with 171 and Speedway with a 182.

Eric Embry led the GHS squad with a two-over-par 38, while Brad Haussin added a 40 and Raymond Stinson a 42. Tyler Hopkins carded a 44, while Jimmy Wheeler and Derik Thomas each shot a 46.

"I'm thrilled for Eric," GHS head coach Donovan Wheeler said. "The kid is as good as he played tonight all the time, but tonight he made the putts, and managed the course very well. He really bailed us out, tonight.

"I felt like we were very prepared from the course-management side. We ignored the eye-candy and hit to the fat of the fairway. We were in a position to really put up a great number," he said.

CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale boys' golf team placed second behind Northview Monday at home. Northview won the match with a 152, followed by Cloverdale's 181, while Shakamak fielded on incomplete team.

Chris Arnold led the Clovers with a 40, followed by Sam Jordan with a 43 and Alex Evans with a 46. Ryan Book carded a 52, Mike Matthews and Colte Tomlinson a pair of 54s.

"Northview came in and shot some great scores," CHS head coach Doug Wokoun said. "Coach Buell has them playing very well right now."

Wokoun noted the team seems to battle some confidence issues, but hoped that a week layoff before their next match will benefit the team.

"We know we are capable of better and we just have to find a way to bring that out," Wokoun said.
