GHS boys' track places third

The GHS boys' track team began the second week of its outdoor season against Avon and Martinsville Tuesday. Martinsville won the meet with a score of 73, with Avon coming in second with 58 points and GHS was third with 36.

"I am really proud of the way that our team competed tonight," Greencastle head coach Mike Shimpf said. "Without a question, the competition was formidable, but the guys really performed well."

Schimpf said he and his team are looking forward to their home opener tonight against North Putnam and Crawfordsville.

Some top performers for the Tiger Cubs on Tuesday were Ryan Payne in the 110 hurdles (15.2) and the 100 (11.2), Jordan Hickam in the long jump (20-9), the high jump (5-10) and in the 100 (11.2), Tyler Hudson in the 3,200 (11:14) and the 1,600 (4:52). Also posting some nice finishes were Travis Barger in the pole vault (15-2), Trevor Teal in the 200 (23.9), Michael Lawson in the shot put (32-3), Ryan Gillespie in the 800 (2:11), Nate Haynes in the 400 (54.6), David Cath in the 300 hurdles (42.5) and Codi Duncan in the discus (76-3).
