GREENCASTLE -- Jimmy Wheeler's low medalist 74 and Brad Hausin's third-place 76 led Greencastle to a runaway victory Saturday in the Tiger Cub Invitational golf tournament at Windy Hill Country Club.

Raymond Stinson shot an 81 and Tyler Hopkins 86 to give Greencastle a total of 317. The Tiger Cubs' Eric Embry had an 87. Greencastle finished seven strokes in front of runner-up South Vermillion's 324. Southmont was third at 348, followed by Tri-West's 362 and Whiteland's 366 in the five-team tournament.

"I think 317 for this group is an outstanding score," Greencastle coach Donavan Wheeler said. "Brad and Jimmy had two great days. It was a lot of fun to see those two guys duke it out. I'm really ecstatic about the round Raymond gave us, a nice third score. Raymond shot 38 on the back (nine holes) and that's a great score for him.

Jimmy Wheeler's four-over par round on the 5,758-yard course, played twice on Windy Hill's nine hole course from different tees, was compromised of two birdies, three bogeys, a triple bogey and 12 pars.

"I played pretty well," Wheeler said, "but not as well as I would have iked."

Wheeler birdied the par-four, 290-yard 10th hole, reaching the green in two and making a 25-foot putt. His other birdie was on the 466-yard par-five. Wheeler's third shot, with a pitching wedge--one of his strengths--stopped 10 feet from the hole and he knocked home the putt.

Wheeler had some bad luck on his triple bogey, taking a two-stroke penalty for a lost ball after his shot went over the green and into the tall grass on the par-four, 389-yard fourth hole.

It was one of Greencastle's best performances of the season.

"That's a pretty strong score for us this year," Jimmy Wheeler said. "I'm pretty proud of it."

Hausin had one birdie, seven bogeys and 10 pars.

"I played all right," he said. "Obviously, I put myself in a little trouble, but for the most part, it was pretty solid."

Hausin birdied the par-four, 394-yard 14th hole.

"I pushed the drive behind the trees and had an open shot through the trees," he explained. "I stuck it in (using a gap wedge) four feet (from the hole)."

Hausin believes Greencastle will be a contender to advance out of the sectional.

"I feel good about this team," he said. "We definitely have a shot at doing something in the sectional. We're five deep."

Greencastle plays today against Danville at Twin Bridges Golf Club in Danville and returns to its home course Tuesday to play North Putnam and Crawfordsville.
