GREENCASTLE -- With yet another thunderstorm warning looming Wednesday, the skies over South Putnam's track remained clear for runners to enjoy a nice, rather warm May afternoon.

The South Putnam girls' squad was able capture six events on the night, but fell short of Tri-West 80-51. The boys won four events and finished behind the Bruins 84-48.

For the girls, Shelby Hacker won the shot put with a distance of 30-9.5, while Kelsey Searles took the discus event with a throw of 86-10. Aisa Terry won the pole vault with a height of 5-feet and Leanna Masters ran to victory in the 400 with a time of 1:11.37.

The two marquee races for the girls' team Thursday proved to be the 200 and the 800 meters.

In the 200 meters, Josie Farmer outkicked her Tri-West opponent to best her by eight-tenths of a second and win the event with a time of 28.08. In similar circumstances, Rachel Egold won her 800 race by outkicking her opponent by posting a time of 2:29.14. Tri-West's second place finisher's time was 2:29.72.

Adam Masters walked away with two victories Thursday for the boys, winning both the discus and the shot put.

Masters won the shot put with a toss of 43-10.5 and easily bested the competition in the discus with a hurl of 137-feet. Jesse Gardner won the pole vault event after clearing a height of 9-feet. Teammate Trent Workman also posted a height of 9-feet in the event.

The 3,200 relay team accounted for the Eagles' lone win in running events. Again it came down to a 200-meter drag race, which senior Dylan Hayes sprinted away from second place to help the team post a time of 9:12.86.

Due to technical difficulties, interviews with South Putnam head coaches Kate Atkinson and Carl Coons were unable to be used.

South Putnam will host the Putnam County Meet Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
