Walking tour, windows workshop set for Preservation Month

This Tudor Gothic home at 623 E. Seminary is one of many homes on a self-guided walking tour sponsored by the Heritage Preservation Society of Putnam County on May 22. A windows restoration workshop is also available for those interested. Both events are being sponsored by HPSPC in honor of May being Historic Preservation month.

GREENCASTLE -- Explore history, architecture, and old-house maintenance in Greencastle on May 22 during National Historic Preservation Month.

A presentation of historic architecture on Putnam County homes will be available at the Putnam County Library in the Kiwanis Room from 11 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 2 p.m.

A workshop on rehabbing historic wooden windows offering hands-on experience will also be available on May 22 at the Putnam County Museum from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Patchin and Rhonda Deeg of Ol' House Experts will lead the presentation.

Indiana Landmarks and the Heritage Preservation Society of Putnam County (HPSPC) are sponsoring both events.

A self-guided walking tour featuring over 60 local homes with historic architectural features will also be available following the architectural presentation at the library. Brochures with a map will be available at both the library and the museum.

The majority of the homes are located on Seminary and Washington Streets with a few on Anderson and Locust. They are part of the Eastern Enlargement Historic District and are located east of the DePauw University campus.
