Time for 6th Annual HSPC rummage sale
GREENCASTLE -- It's almost time for the Sixth Annual Humane Society of Putnam County rummage sale and donations are needed.
The annual event is the organization's largest moneymaker and takes place beginning May 27 and running through May 30 at the Putnam County Fairgrounds goat barn.
Donations of gently used clothing, books, toys, furniture, sporting equipment, tools and appliances are needed.
Call 653-5739 to make arrangements to drop off items or to have them picked up.
Another fundraising project is the Humane Society of Putnam County Cookbook.
Anyone who has a story to tell about an animal adopted from a shelter or that has changed their life is welcome to send it in.
Recipes are also welcome.
Send them to hspcanimals@yahoo.com.
The group hopes to have the cookbooks ready for holiday gift-giving this year.
Volunteers are always needed at the shelter and training classes are ongoing.
Three types of training are being offered, general training, Meet Your Match and adoption training.
General training class teaches shelter procedures, how to select which dogs can be safely walked of walked together and where to walk them.
Techniques and procedures to help socialize and enrich the lives of shelter animals are also taught.
Meet your Match training teaches how to assess an animal's potential aggression toward humans and other dogs. This is used to determine potential behavior issues and modifications.
This program is also used to assess an adoptable dog's energy or persistence level and motivation.
It helps shelter workers match the right dog to the right person.
Adoption training class provides volunteers with help in good counseling and completing paperwork in the adoption process. Policies, prices and determining good matches is a must for volunteers.
For information about the classes or events call the shelter at 654-5739 or e-mail hspcanimals@yahoo.com.
