GREENCASTLE -- The threat of rain turned into a reality Friday night in the Greencastle and Riverton Parke softball contest. The game was called in the sixth inning, allowing the Panthers to come away with an 8-3 victory.

With clouds rolling in overhead, the Panthers began to light things up with their bats early in the contest, while it took the Tiger Cubs a little longer to hit their stride.

In the second inning, Riverton Parke was able to put together a four-run birrage. The inning saw Randi Cookus, Makenzie Haltom, Ashley Kinne and Sheldan Falls all cross the plate. They added two more runs in the top of the third inning.

Greencastle was able to get on the board in the third inning when Kaytlynn Beaman sent a shot to center field and drive in Mallory Miller, but Beaman was caught trying to get back to second after thinking about making a go for third.

Riverton Parke's most explosive moment came in the fourth inning as Sarah Burnham crushed a 2-run home run that landed close to the concession stand to straight away center field.

The Tiger Cubs seemed to be finding the chinks in the Panthers armor and scored two runs in the fifth inning, cutting the lead to 8-3. Taylor Pruitt and Miller scored for GHS.

But as soon as the Panthers took the field in the top of the sixth inning, the heavens opened and the players were driven from the field. After a short delay, the game was called and the Panthers headed home with an 8-3 victory.

For the Tiger Cubs, Miller was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Beaman was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a double. Kayla Downing was 1-for-3 with a double.

Burnham led the Panthers at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run and a double.
