ACRE/DCP June 1 enrollment deadline quickly approaching

Monday, May 10, 2010

INDIANAPOLIS --Roger Bailey, County Executive Director of USDA's Putnam and Hendricks counties' Farm Service Agency (FSA) reminds producers that June 1 is the deadline for enrolling in the 2010 Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) Program or the traditional Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program (DCP).

This is a mandatory deadline for all participants and USDA will not accept any late-filed applications.

"It is critical for producers to begin the enrollment process as soon as possible. Over 100,000 farms were enrolled in DCP/ACRE Program during 2009," Bailey said. "To date, approximately 55 percent of Putnam County's and 34 percent of Hendricks County's farms have enrolled in 2010 DCP/ACRE Programs.

"At the current rate of enrollment, it is possible that a significant number of farms eligible for 2010 DCP/ACRE will not be enrolled by the June 1, 2010, deadline," he added.

"FSA understands that spring is here and planters are headed to the fields. We just don't want our Hoosier farmers to miss this important deadline," Bailey concluded.

All signatures of producers receiving a share in DCP/ACRE payments are required by the June 1st deadline. It is important producers contact their local office to set up appointments well before the deadline.
