Eagles capture junior high title

ROACHDALE -- The South Putnam Junior High boys' track team won the Putnam County Meet Thursday at North Putnam. The Eagles won with a score of 82, followed by Greencastle with 64, North Putnam with eight and Cloverdale with six.

Recording first place finishes for the Eagles were Hunter Barr (2,400 and 1,600), Tyler Neumann (110 hurdles) Wes Riner (100), Noah Taylor (800) and Nathan Criss (shot put).

The 400 relay team of Ben Fiest, Zane Yon, Riner and Taylor won, while the team of Yon, Barr, Taylor and Neumann won the 1,600 relay.

Fiest (200) and Criss (discus) recorded second place finishes, while Klayton Vittetow (800) and Neumann (long jump) had third place finishes. Vittetow (110 hurdles), Fiest (100, high jump), Quentin Humbarger (shot put) and Joe Masters (discus) ended the day in fourth place.

Berendt Freeman (2,400) and Humbarger (discus) were fifth on the day.

"I'm very proud of the fact that we have continued to improve throughout the season," head coach Nathan Aker said. "The kids have worked very hard and showed that with great personal and team performances at the county meet. I'd like congratulate our guys on great season. Also, I'd like to thank Coach Welti for all of his work with our distance runners. They have led our team all season."
