David Edwin Duggan, 77, of Greencastle passed away Friday, May 14, 2010 at Regional Hospital, Terre Haute.

Mr. Duggan was born Feb. 20, 1933 in Terre Haute to Hugh Leo and Sadie B. Privett Duggan.

Mr. Duggan graduated from Gerstmeyer High School in Terre Haute on June 5, 1951, and on June 6, 1951 he left for the United States Navy, stationed in San Diego, Calif. He served aboard the LST 1123 during the Korean War, seeing conflict on Korea and also spending some time in Japan. He was honorably discharged in May of 1955.

He began his employment as a printer at IBM on Dec. 9, 1955, retiring in January of 1987 after 31 years.

On Feb. 11, 1956, he married Gloria Ann Hollen in Mt. Carmel, Ill. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, three months and three days; two sons, Thomas Hugh Duggan and wife Candie of Greencastle and Timothy Scott Duggan and wife Lisa of Greencastle; three grandsons, Lance Cpl. David Michael Duggan, serving in the Marine Corps at Camp Legeune, N.C., and wife Stephanie, Timothy Scott Duggan II of Greencastle and David Henry Nichols "Nick" Duggan of Greencastle; and several cousins in Terre Haute, North Vernon, Indianapolis and other towns.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1945; his step-father Thomas F. Whitmore in August 1975; his mother Sadie B. Duggan Whitmore in September 2001; his mother-in-law Cordia M. Hollen on Dec. 5, 1967; his father-in-law Edward N. Hollen on Jan. 10, 1973; his grandparents James E. and Polly Privett; and several other relatives.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #58 in Greencastle.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home in Greencastle with the Rev. Bill Dawson and the Rev. Johnny Huttlemeyer officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
