Clover golf falls to Warriors

MARSHALL -- The Cloverdale golf team struggled Tuesday evening at Turkey, falling to the Warriors 166-190.

"We had a poor night. Our effort was not as good, the weather was not good, and it was very wet," CHS Coach Doug Wokoun said. "We did some things well, but it was inconsistent. I was concerned about a letdown after the county and conference, and it happened. We missed our match last night due to weather, and it is probably just as well.

Turkey Run's Eric Newton was medalist, with a 38. Cloverdale's Chris Arnold was next with a 41.

Next for the Clovers was Tyler Deakin with a 47, followed by Gary Williams' 50, Sam Jordan's 52 and Colte Tomlinson's 52.

"We were missing Alex Evans, but some one else must step up and play," Wokoun said. "It is a par-37 course, and the greens were slow due to the moisture, but you just have to recognize and adjust.

"All of our players did some good things, but there weren't enough of them and it wasn't consistent enough to be competitive against a good team on their home course," he concluded.
