The Purdue Club of Putnam County announced its scholarship recipients for 2010 as well as the recipients of the Barbara and Edward Brookshire Purdue Scholarship.

Purdue Club President Ron Birt noted that the club is in its ninth year of presenting scholarships, $600 each this year, to Putnam County students who are attending Purdue University.

This year's group brings the total to 23 students who have received the scholarships.

The three Putnam County students who are this year's winners are Tim Mason, Jacob Saunders, and Hilary Schroeder.

Mason is a 2009 North Putnam High School graduate and the son of Ted and Sandra Mason.

He will be a sophomore in health sciences and plans to become a physical therapist.

Saunders is a 2008 Cloverdale High School graduate and the son of Glenda Gillette.

He will be a junior in biological sciences majoring in ecology and entomology, and plans to pursue a PhD degree in biology.

Schroeder is a 2010 Greencastle High School graduate and the daughter of Daniel and Linda Schroeder.

She will be a freshman in the School of Engineering and plans to major in biomedical or mechanical engineering.

"One of the major purposes of the Purdue Club of Putnam County is to support Putnam County students who wish to study at Purdue University," said Birt. "We have established an endowment fund with the Putnam County Community Foundation and all profits from our fundraising activities go to this fund.

"Our goal is to grow the fund to the point that we can provide scholarships with the proceeds from the fund," Birt continued.

He also noted that after starting the endowment fund with just $5,000, the current value is now over $30,000.

The Purdue Club also administers the Barbara and Edward Brookshire Purdue Scholarship, which is funded from the Brookshire endowment with the Putnam County Community Foundation.

This year three Putnam County students with agricultural careers in mind will receive a Brookshire scholarship.

They are Renee Foltz, Courtney Mann, and Janna Oxford.

Foltz is a 2008 North Putnam High School graduate and the daughter of Brent and Pam Foltz.

She will be a junior in Agricultural Economics and plans a career with an agribusiness firm.

Mann is a 2010 Cloverdale High School graduate and the daughter of Robert and Malinda Mann.

She also plans to major in Agricultural Economics and find a career with an agribusiness firm.

Oxford is a 2009 Cloverdale High School graduate and the daughter of Kevin and Denise Oxford.

She will be a sophomore in Agricultural Education and plans to become a high school Agricultural Education teacher and FFA sponsor.

Scholarship winners will be honored at the dinner at Autumn Glen following this year's Purdue Club golf outing on June 23.
