Cloverdale High needs new roof
CLOVERDALE -- As rain began to pelt the windows of the Arthur L. Johnson Administration Center and lightning raced across the sky, school board members quickly attended to matters at hand Monday night.
The board heard updates on facilities from Jeff Underwood and about food service from Billy Boyette.
Underwood brought both good and bad news to board members. After handing them a list of completed and current projects, he talked finances. The board was pleased to hear the corporation saved a large amount of money by utilizing in-house labor for most of its projects. However, he discovered the high school is in desperate need of a new roof.
"It is beyond patching," Underwood said as he described the poor condition of the roof.
He suggested going with a "rubber roof," and the worse case scenario would be a cost of $32,000. Superintendent Carrie Milner explained to the board a new roof hadn't been planned for, but the corporation had saved approximately $142,000 from in-house labor on its latest projects.
And the savings continued with Boyette in the food service department. Due to a nearly $27,000 savings through the co-op, Boyette recommended the price of a student meal stay at $2.30. However, he asked the board to consider increasing the price of an adult meal by 25 cents. The recommendation will be voted on at next months meeting.
