Seven young women from across Putnam County will compete for the title of Miss Putnam County July 17 during the Putnam County 4-H Fair Queen Contest. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the community building at the Putnam County Fairgrounds.

Admission is $3 per person.

Here is a look at two of the contestants vying for the crown.

Elsiana Olivia Crosby

Elsiana Olivia Crosby

Elsiana, 18, of Greencastle is the daughter of Russell and Tina Crosby and sister to Rachel, Sarah, Nathaniel, Hannah and Leah. She is a 2010 graduate of North Putnam High School and will be attending Marian University in the fall. Her future plans include joining the U.S. Army.

During high school, Elsiana was a member of the FFA, SADD, student council, FCA, High School Heroes and was a Cougar mentor. She has participated in TSLA, teen court and 4-H.

"I entered the contest because my mom asked me to," Elsiana said.

She described herself as "outgoing, crazy, funny, loud, fun and athletic." Her hobbies include all sports. Elsiana's advice to younger people would be to excel in school.

"Playing sports has shaped me as a person," she said about what has impacted her life the most and making her the person she is today.

Elsiana cited David Ferrand as the person she admires most.

"He has a good heart," she said.

Elizabeth Wiley

Elizabeth Wiley

Elizabeth, 18, of Quincy is the daughter of John and Regina Wiley and sister to Jennifer. She is a 2010 graduate of Cloverdale High School and will be attending Indiana State University. Her future plans include becoming a nurse.

During high school, Elizabeth was a member of FCA, FFA, Spanish Club, National Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society and Women's Ensemble. She played golf, basketball and softball, which remain as her hobbies, along with singing and dancing.

"I decided to enter the contest because it will give me a chance to meet new people and make life-long friendships," she said.

Elizabeth describes herself as outgoing, fun-loving and trustworthy. Her advice to younger people is "be yourself and don't let anyone try and change who you are."

She said there has not been one specific event in her life that has had the greatest impact on her life. "My family members have all helped contribute into making me the person that I am today."

The person she admires most is her Aunt Kathy.

"Even through her years of battling cancer, she still always has a smile on her face," Elizabeth said. "She is in touch with the Lord and I admire her courage."
