Cummings turns passion into business

Pam Cummings with Sunshine Gardens will speak about her passion for Heirloom tomatoes and gardening as a whole at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cloverdale Farmer's Market.

CLOVERDALE -- Growing up with large gardens tended by her mother, Pat Cummings fell in love with gardening and is a constant student, learning all she can about plants, flowers and tomatoes -- especially tomatoes.

To enhance her knowledge of gardening and all its techniques, Cummings took the Master Gardner and Living off the Land courses through the Putnam County Extension office.

Her passion for gardening went beyond the classroom and evolved into a business Cummings and her husband established northeast of Greencastle. At Sunshine Gardens, Cummings' customers can find flowers, perennials, fresh produce and vegetable plants.

The couple also sells flowers and produce at the Cloverdale Farmer's Market, where they enjoy interacting with members of the community as much as they love gardening. Expect to hear about recipes and more when stopping by their stand.

Cummings will be giving a presentation on her Heirloom tomatoes and gardening as a whole at 10 a.m. Saturday at the farmer's market located at Logan and Lafayette streets in Cloverdale.

Market hours are from 8 a.m. to noon and set up is free for vendors with locally grown garden produce.
