Girl Scouts to hold car wash

The Northern Putnam County Girl Scouts will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at AutoZone for a free will donation.

Brazil Concert Band presents "German Summerfest 2010"

The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Herr Oberst von Huber, proudly presents "German Summerfest 2010" Sunday in Forest Park, rain or shine.

The BCB's own German band, The Happy Wanderers, will kick off the evening at 7:15 p.m. performing traditional polkas and waltzes for the annual review of German music.

The Popcorn Festival crew will be serving German food beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the pavilion.

The entire Brazil Concert Band takes the stage at 8 p.m. with a stately program of German classics featuring Richard Wagner's "The Ride of the Valkyries," "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral" and "Lohengrin."

German marches will be chosen from "Der Graf Spee," "Alte Kameraden," "Hoch Heidecksburg," "Der Koniggratzer," "Kaiser-Parade" and "Die Wacht Am Rhein."

"Prost Stimmung" was purchased in Germany several years ago for the Brazil Concert Band and is a waltz medley of the best-known stein swinging favorites.
