  • I think this is very cruel to the pig. Some might think this is funny, but some of us who are animal advocates do not appreciate to see pictures of these types. I am a country person, but a very caring person for defenseless animals. And if this is a 4H event...........well I think someone needs to revisit this event. Make it a little more humane, like using a different container, which looked entirely too small for the poor pig to end up in??...thank you.

  • Fun for who? Definitely not the pig.

  • OK lets visit this topic again this year. Kids have been doing this for the last 200 hundred years and will do it for the next 200. Lets feel sorry for the poor little piggy. At least it is alive, guess what will happen when they auction it off and take it to a slaughter house.

    Oh, woe for the pig.

  • Lets tie them up and see how they like it....hmmm bet not.

  • This is awful! I am embarrassed for those of you who have taken part in this type of abuse against a defenseless animal. As for the Banner Graphic, shame on you for printing this picture!

  • I was there at the hog wrestling event and was happy to see all the families there having fun together. In my opinion there more to complain about with all the drug problems, child abuse and killing going on in this country then pig being picked up and put on a barrel. Think People.

  • Born in the USA so how about we pick you up and put you in a barrel? Think about that!!

  • npgrad2008 I will agree the world has bigger problems however, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Some of us just don't see the fun in what is taking place with this particular situation.

  • PETA...People Eating Tasty Animals. They are animals people, we eat them. Would you like to play in the mud with some kids or get killed and eaten. This is good healthy fun not animal abuse.

  • Like a pig knows this is play?? Seriously!!

  • justme44 - Maybe next year you should get a group together and picket the event, showing your disgust. Instead of being behind the computer, come out with your supporters and perhaps that will change the minds of those involved. Probably not, but at least you've done more than complain anonymously on this discussion board.

Just a side bar.... the pigs in this type of competition live far longer than those who are raised for meat.

  • Ha ha MsBehaving I believe you are also doing this anonymously as well. Just saying!!

  • My family and I had a Blast at the pig wrestling......My children participated and I plan on participating next year. This event was good "CLEAN" family fun .Just an example of small town living at its best.My children could have been home sitting indoors on a computer or playing video games or out getting into trouble with the law.......Maybe I will see you next year with your picket signs.....But I bet I have more FUN!!!!!

  • Like all animals farm animals have feelings, and they deserve to be treated with compassion and respect.

"No one may shut his eyes and think that the pain which is therefore not visible, is nonexistent."

The hogs tell me, "It's ok, they don't realize what they are doing."

Didn't somebody we worship say that as well?

Maybe the animals have something to teach us.

We all know a pig is more than just a pork chop.
