Robert L. Vandagrifft, 75, Greencastle, a long time resident of Martinsville, passed from this life on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010 at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born to the late Gerald and Carrie (Brewer) Vandagrifft on July 3, 1935 in Morgantown.

He served in the National Guard and was a member of the Masonic Lodge #74 F & AM, Elks Lodge #1349 and American Legion Post #230 all Martinsville, Greencastle Moose Lodge and Morgan County and Murat Shrine Clubs. He also served on the VanBibber Lake Estates Conservancy Board in Greencastle.

He was owner and operator of R.L. Vandagrifft Trucking, from which he retired, and former owner of Collinsville Ford in Collinsville, Okla.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, watersports and was an avid NASCAR fan.

On April 25, 1952 he married his wife of over 50 years, Barbara I. (Glasscock) Vandagrifft, surviving in Greencastle.

He also leaves behind five sons and daughters-in-law, Terry (Dianna) Vandagrifft of Martinsville, Tom (Judy) Vandagrifft of Martinsville and Todd (Helen) Vandagrifft of Martinsville, Tim (Debbie S.) Vandagrifft of Greencastle and Toby (Debbie A.) Vandagrifft of Greencastle; two sisters, Patty Pennington of North Carolina and Olla "Babe" Boyd of North Carolina; 13 grandchildren, Barbara Ann Figg, Bruce Hicks, Jennifer Cragen, Tim Lee Bicknell, Tommy Vandagrifft, LeAnn Vandagrifft, Tobias Robert "Bobby" Vandagrifft, T.K. Vandagrifft, Tyler Vandagrifft, Shalonda Eldridge, Brandi Lee, Shana Lee and Ashley Lee; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Tony Vandagrifft; one daughter, Duska Sue Vandagrifft; one brother, Gene C. Vandagrifft; two sisters, Rosie Smith and Evelyn Fox; and two grandsons, Dustin Vandagrifft and Tony Bicknell.

Friends are invited to visit on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Masonic memorial service at 7 p.m., and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at Neal & Summers Funeral & Cremation Center in Martinsville. A celebration of life service to be officiated by the Revs. Nathan Janssen and Scott Volland will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
