Satellite building demolished

Thursday, August 26, 2010
The building on South Bloomington Street that housed the popular burger joint the Satellite during in the 1960s and 1970s was demolished Tuesday. The land on which the building sat at 420 S. Bloomington St. is now owned by Putnam County Comprehensive Services. PCCS executive director Chuck Schroeder said he is not sure yet what will be built on the lot, but that it will likely be a place where PCCS clients could receive work training. Schroeder estimated that building on the lot would start late next spring or early next summer. PCCS also purchased the lot at 424 S. Bloomington. The building on that lot, which used to be a pizza parlor, has also been razed. Photo by Amanda Junk

  • millerschoolkid, you got it man! For fast food, the Satellite was tops. Worked ther during high school back in '76 - '77. Doc and Claire were great people to work for. Cheryl, Betsy, Jeannie and Russ were great people to work with. Give me a Big Star and an order of fries, please!!

  • "So two more buildings come off of the tax rosters?"

We probably weren't getting much from vacant buildings.

  • I understand the nostalgia alot of people are having but im glad to see it go, for as long as I can remember, the building was always closed and whenever a restaurant did open up, it didn't last very long. Im glad to see it just flat out destroyed than sitting there empty for years at a time.

  • It had the best hamburgers when it was open. Lately, it has been an eyesore. Glad the building is gone. Wouldn't it be nice if someone would open a new Satellite Hamburger place? (hint, hint)

  • Another hamburger joint? It would probably last about as long as Sonic did.
