Wanda Louise Francke, 86, or Bloomington, formerly of Greencastle, passed away at Bloomington Hospital on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010.

She was born into the home of Elmer T. Powers and Marie (McCustion) Powers in Shawnee, Okla., on Aug. 28, 1924.

Wanda attended Oklahoma A&M and majored in English literature. She served in the United States Marine Corps during 1945 and 1946 at WR Company, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Wanda was a member of the Crossroads Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star No. 87 of Bloomington No. 223 and volunteered for over 15 years with the Pink Ladies of Bloomington Hospital and Greencastle Hospital. Wanda's pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She will be loved and missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald L. Francke (July 16, 2010); aunt and uncle Fred and Bonnie Powers; and aunt Wanda Rein.

Survivors include daughter Sandra Marie Kelley of Ellettsville, sons Loris Andrew "Mike" Francke of Ellettsville and James Thomas (Catie) Francke of Ellettsville; six grandchildren, Jennifer Sadler of Ellettsville, Amanda Francke of Ellettsville, Ashley Francke of Ellettsville, Michael "Augie" (Mindy) Francke of Bloomington, Tina Kelley of Bloomfield and Julia R. (Matthew) Scott of Belleview, Ill.; six great-grandchildren, Corbin and Cameron King of Bloomington, Khaliya Council of Bloomington and Chase and Dylan Francke of Bloomington and Chance D. Cooksey of Bloomfield; stepbrother Charles R. (Jeannie) Pirtle of Florida; nephews Charles (Dee) Pirtle Jr. and Richard (Melva) Pirtle and niece Lori Pirtle, all of Ohio.

Funeral services took place at 1 p.m. Monday at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville with Pastor Ray New officiating. An Order of the Eastern Star service took place prior to the service at 12:30 p.m.

Burial followed at Valhalla Memory Gardens.

Friends visited with the family from 10 a.m. until time of services Monday at the funeral home.
