Ina Lorraine Duffle Armour

Ina Lorraine Duffle Armour died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 in Greencastle.

Ina was born in Hindsboro, Ill. to Harmon and Grace Duffle on Dec. 20, 1908, making her 101 years, 8 months and 13 days old at the time of death.

She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Hindsboro, but traveled with her Grandmother Simpson as chaperone to Indianapolis to attend the Teacher's College of Indianapolis (Madam Blaker's all-girl college). Upon graduation she returned to that same one-room schoolhouse to teach first and second grades.

Some years after her 1932 marriage to George N. Armour, the couple moved briefly to Indianapolis and finally to Hazelwood, where they spent the majority of their lives.

Ina was a homemaker, a foster parent to more than 30 children through the years and at one time worked as an aide in a local nursing home. She also volunteered at Armour's Greenhouse, which was owned by her son and daughter-in-law. She was an active member of the Plainfield Church of Christ, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hazelwood Volunteer Fire Department and the Hazelwood Circle. She loved growing flowers, decorating for Christmas, entertaining guests in her home and baking for shut-ins.

She is survived by two sons, Dale and wife Helen Armour of Hazelwood and Dwane and wife Cookie Armour of Hazelwood; and a daughter, Diane and husband Don Hall of Gainesville, Fla.; grandchildren Pam and Kenny Cooper, Steve Armour, Jeff and Julie Broadstreet, Barry and Jennifer Armour, Keith and Cathy Armour, Scott and Amy Armour, Brook and Jason Rockefeller, Lisa and Eric Hammond and Todd Hall; extended family, Patty Williams, Tina Williams and Jimmy Williams, Roger Mize, Larry Allen and Connie Allen Westlake; three sisters-in-law, Adelia Duffle, Rose Duffle and Betty Duffle; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, four brothers (Nelson Duffle, Andrew Duffle, Leon Duffle and Horace Duffle), a beloved sister (Mary Duffle Van Blaricom), two sisters-in-law (Geneva Shonkweiler and Gertrude Shaw) and a foster daughter, Agnes Poppino.

Calling was from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Weaver & Randolph Funeral Home in Clayton.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home, with calling one hour prior. Burial will follow at Center Valley Cemetery.
