Area cross country teams compete at Jon Mitchell Invite

CLAYTON -- Cross country teams from North Putnam, South Putnam and Cloverdale battled at the Jon Mitchell Invite Saturday at Cascade.

North Putnam's Paxton Stephenson led the Putnam County girls with a sixth place finish in a time of 21:10. Katie Douglas finished 11th with a time of 21:26, with Whitney High placing 60th in 25:06.

Cloverdale had a duo finish in the top 10 to lead the Clovers. Claudia Monnett was seventh in a time of 21:19, with Amillia Nally finishing just behind in eighth place in 21:21. Nikki Routh was 21st with a time of 22:18, while Cheryl Dean was 64th in a time of 26:22.

South Putnam was led by Mallory Glaze in 28th place with a time of 23:04, with teammate Allison Guthrie placing 32nd in 23:22. Mattie Varvel was 55th in 24:48 and Miriah Cherry was 56th in 24:51. Lyndsie Beaslie was 65th in 26:26. South Putnam was the only team to post a team score, finishing ninth out of 10 teams.

In the boys' race, South Putnam's Hunter Barr led the charge with a 16th place finish in 17:46. Shea Arnold was 21st in 18:01 and Jorge Cavell was 34th in 18:54. Tanner Barr placed 37th in 19:07, while Andrew Kelly was 49th in a time of 19:53.

Matt Lund finished 52nd in 19:58, with Larry Hurst placing 68th in 21:33.

Cloverdale's Joe Rumley finishing in the top 20 with a 19th place finish in a time of 17:55. Devon Nees was 54th in a time of 20:02, while Aaron Whitlock was 55th with a time of 20:12. Nick Cupp was 59th in 20:22, Chris Worthington was 70th in 21:56, Will Andersen was 77th in 24:09 and Ethan Manners was 79th in 25:37.

The Cougars were led by Trenton Osborne in 38th place with a time of 19:12, with teammate Dalton Spear finishing 40th in 19:21. Jared James was 69th in a time of 21:50.

South Putnam placed seventh out of 11 teams, with the Clovers placing 11th. The Cougars were unable to post a team score.
