Kevin L. Nauman passed away at his home in Lowville, N.Y. on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010.

Nauman was born on July 8, 1966, and graduated from South Putnam High School in 1984. He was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Drum, N.Y., 10th Mountain Division for his entire career. During his 19 years in the military, Nauman had been deployed to Panama, Kosovo and Afghanistan three times, where he earned several medals and accommodations.

As a young man, he attended Fillmore United Methodist Church and was a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 96, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and restoring old Mustang cars.

Nauman was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Smythe Covert; grandfather, Marion Eugene Smythe; and grandparents, Ralph, Verda and Goldie Nauman.

Survivors include his father, Paul Nauman; his stepmother, Norma Nauman; a son, Klayton Nauman of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; a grandson, Riley Nauman of Plattsburgh. N.Y.; his fiancée, Lisa Stiglitz of Kingston, Ontario, Canada; great-grandparents, Barbara and Raymond Martin of Brazil; step-grandmothers Bernadine Smythe of Mountain Home, Ark. and Evaline Clark of Coatesville; sister Melissa Nauman (Brad Dorsett) of Cloverdale; half-sister Deanna Hellums (Todd) of Brazil; half-brother Michael Covert of Brazil; stepsisters Tami Huffman of Clarence, Mo., Lori Boyce (Shane) of Fillmore and Kelli Stevens (Bryan) of Cloverdale; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and services at 10 a.m. Friday at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home in Greencastle. Burial will be in Fillmore Cemetery. Pastor Paul Taylor will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family are welcome to donate to the Fillmore High School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund through the Putnam County Community Foundation.
