Karnival for Kids slated for Oct. 9

Thursday, September 30, 2010

Psi Lambda Xi, DePauw's only local sorority, will host a Karnival for Kids on Oct. 9.

The event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at Robe-Ann Park in Greencastle.

"Our sisterhood is dedicated to philanthropic efforts which benefit the local community," said Rebecca Janvrin, the sorority's philanthropy chair.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.

"Some of our sisters have been Riley patients themselves," Janvrin said.

Karnival for Kids -- which will feature booths and a variety of games -- will serve as a kick-off event for a toy and supply drive the sorority is doing for Riley.

Last year, the sorority, in partnership with DePauw and the community, collected more than 400 toys and supplies that went directly to the children at the hospital.

"This year's toy drive will conclude with Rave for Riley, a rave-style event that will be held on DePauw's campus on Nov. 19," Janvrin said.
