Celebration for emergency workers

Saturday, October 2, 2010

Goodtimers Inc. will present Shinpig 2010 on Oct. 9, a free day for all Putnam County Emergency Services personnel and their families.

The event will include roasted hog and sides, along with music and fun.

There will also be a cornhole tournament for emergency services personnel to take each other on and a tug-o-war at the end of the day.

The event will take place at "Fenwick Park" behind the Putnam County Jail. Food will be served at noon, with the cornhole tourney beginning at approximately 2 p.m., and the tug-o-war around 5 p.m.

Cornhole costs $20 per team to enter, and trophies are awarded to the top three teams at the end of the double elimination tournament.

The coveted traveling paddle will be awarded to the top tug-o-war team to take back to its department and hang for the year along with the bragging rights of being "top pullers" for 2010. Tug-o-war is free to any department and consists of a six-person team of active personnel from that department with one alternate.

All food is free and is made possible by generous donations from local agencies including Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter and his office, Wal-Mart, Kroger, McDonald's and Goodtimers Inc.
