Shirley S. Cook, 75, Beatrice, Neb., died as the result of a traffic accident on Monday, Oct. 4, 2010.

She was born June 7, 1935 in Indianapolis and attended and graduated from Emrich Manual High School. She married Billy Cook on July 12, 1953 in Indianapolis.

She was a secretary for Morris Plan Financial Services in Indianapolis and later lived in Cambridge City and Albert Lea, Minn., before moving to Beatrice in 1973.

She had been the owner/operator of A & N Bar in Wymore, Neb. since 1980. She is a former member of the Eastern Star in Cambridge City.

Survivors include husband Billy of Beatrice; three daughters, Brenda Steinkamp of Beatrice, Cheryl Cook of Lincoln, Neb. and Deborah Caris and husband Michael of Plymouth, Minn.; two sons, Michael Cook and special friend Dena Mathias of Lincoln and Mark Cook of Rowlett, Texas; nine grandchildren, Adam and Andrew Cook, Eric Steinkamp, Jason, Joshua, Jon and Jeffery Caris, Madisen and Carsen Cook; one great-granddaughter, Adelyn Caris; one sister, Linda Allee and husband Bill of Greencastle; and five nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lola Schmitt; her parents-in-law, Lester and Bonnie Cook; and a son-in-law, Keith Steinkamp.

Celebration of Life services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Christ Community Church of Beatrice. The body was cremated.
