Bainbridge a part of Covered Bridge Festival
BAINBRIDGE -- The covered bridges are the stars, but there are many facets of fun events to this gem of West-Central Indiana festivals.
The Covered Bridge Festival starts on the second Friday of every October and lasts 10 days. Sunday brought out young and old folk alike in the Town of Bainbridge for a relaxed afternoon of music, crafts and food.
Students from the North Putnam Middle School's seventh grade art class came together to design all the awards for the day's events, drew pictures and built models of covered bridges in a competition to win a $25 gift card from the Friends of the Park (FOTP) summer Fun in the Sun program. FOTP services the community parks in Russellville, Roachdale and Bainbridge.
"We urge people to come out and vote by dropping change in the appropriate cups for the drawings and models that the seventh graders have worked hard on," said President of FOTP Dianna Gorrell. "This is the second year for the drawings, but it is the first year for students to build models of covered bridges."
The event began with live music performed by Christina Rice, a Russellville native.
There was an exciting car show during the event that attracted cars such as a 1970 Chevy Chevelle 454, 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner, 1000 horsepower Cadillac CTS and a 1930 Ford Model A Pick-up.
The event progressed through the afternoon and brought Indiana natives from all areas.
North Putnam Cougars set up a "fun jump" for the kids and charged $1 for unlimited jumps.
The adults were able to purchase local vendor items and enjoy food from a variety of different cuisines.
The North Putnam High School band provided a medley of patriotic music and a stirring Halloween themed piece to wrap up its performance.
Bainbridge had a bit of everything for all ages during this event and set the stage for a successful week ahead. The Covered Bridge Festival will end Sunday.
